The Port of Montreal and the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) have been affected by strikes, resulting in a significant backlog of containers and vessels waiting. While the Port of Montreal has resumed operations, it is expected to take several weeks to process the accumulated cargo. Shipping companies have warned of potential delays. The VFPA has implemented a priority anchorage allocation system, encouraging the use of "offshore areas" as arrival points and requiring vessel operators to take measures for timely arrivals. Most shipping companies will restart the clock on demurrage and detention fees on the day the marine terminals reopen, and shippers and freight forwarders may face D&D charges.
