Recently, an international shipping company announced the opening of a new container route connecting Shanghai, China and Santos, Brazil. It is planned to set sail from Shanghai Port on May 14, forming a 77 day circular route of Shanghai-Shekou-Vung Tau-Singapore-Santos-Singapore-Shanghai, providing weekly services from the Far East to the East Coast of South America.
As an important supplement to the regional logistics network, the new route will operate in parallel with the existing route, increasing the number of direct flights from Shanghai Port to Santos Port from one to two per week, and increasing the supply of space by more than 25%, significantly enhancing the transportation flexibility from Asia Pacific to the East Coast of South America. Its core advantages are reflected in:
Regional coverage upgrade
The new Shenzhen Shekou Port is added, combined with existing ports such as Yantian and Hong Kong, to build a service network of three major hubs in South China. Through barge transportation in the Pearl River Delta, full coverage services for manufacturing companies in the region are achieved.
Southeast Asia direct flight breakthrough
For the first time, direct service to Vung Tau Port in Vietnam was launched, and regional connection solutions such as Ho Chi Minh were cooperated to provide "door-to-door" logistics solutions for Southeast Asian export companies to avoid time delays caused by transit in third countries.
South American hub efficiency improvement
Relying on the multimodal transport network of Santos, the largest port in Brazil, it can quickly connect to major ports on the east coast of South America, such as Victoria and Rio de Janeiro, and extend to northern ports through the Aliança feeder service, forming a logistics channel covering the entire territory of Brazil.
Data shows that after the route is implemented, it will provide more efficient transportation options for high-value-added goods such as China's new energy vehicles and photovoltaic products. It is expected that the transportation time from South China to the east coast of South America will be improved by 30%, and the logistics cost per box will be reduced by about 20%. As the largest comprehensive port in Latin America, the railway, road and inland waterway transportation network of Santos Port can further strengthen the resilience of the regional supply chain and help increase the trade volume between China and Latin America.
