In 2024, global container ship orders reached 4.4 million TEUs, a record high, surpassing 4.2 million TEUs in 2021. The new ship market is booming and supply is surging. The container fleet grew by 10.6% throughout the year, with capacity increasing by nearly 3 million TEUs, more than half of which were deployed on the Asia-Europe route. Market sentiment is expected to be positive in 2025, but orders will be lower than in 2024, reflecting a more cautious attitude. Ship demolition activities are still scarce and are expected to grow in 2025.
