Understanding CFS/CY and CFS/CFS in International Shipping

November 24, 2025

What is CFS/CY?

CFS/CY (Container Freight Station → Container Yard)
This term means the cargo is delivered to the CFS at the origin, where it is consolidated and loaded into a container. At the destination, the container is delivered to the CY (Container Yard), and the consignee takes responsibility for cargo pickup and unpacking.

Key points:
Cargo is consolidated at origin CFS
Delivered as a whole container to destination CY
Common for LCL shipments that become full containers after consolidation

What is CFS/CFS?

CFS/CFS (Container Freight Station → Container Freight Station)
This means cargo is delivered to the CFS at the origin, consolidated, shipped, and then unloaded at a CFS at the destination, where the consignee collects the goods after deconsolidation.

Key points:
CFS consolidation at origin
CFS deconsolidation at destination
Typical for LCL (Less than Container Load) shipments
